Author's Note:
HelpBabySleep.com.au is all about sleep. It’s our aim to help your baby sleep better, longer and hopefully through the night.
Having a baby is a life-changing experience, and not everyone’s experience will be the same. All babies are different: some are sleepy and placid and some would rather fight sleep than drift off to the land of Nod.
It’s important to remember that all young babies wake often and for different reasons. They may be going through a growth spurt or they may be hungry or have a wet nappy. However, there are many times when your baby will wake and you will be able to help them back to sleep. With that mind we’ve created a series of Sleep Tips to help your baby sleep better at night and during the day. Even if you don’t have a baby or are planning to fall pregnant you may enjoy reading these tips anyway.
Always have your baby in a safe environment for sleep. It can be dangerous to leave little ones sleeping unsupervised in your bed as pillows, blankets and doonas can act as hazards. Remember to take toys and other objects out of the cot or bassinet when your baby goes down for a sleep. SIDS researchers suggest that a baby’s cot should only have a fitted bottom sheet - babies don’t need pillows until they’re at least 2 years old. For more information on SIDS, go to http://www.sidsandkids.org
So, here’s to more sleep for you and your baby. Sweet dreams!
Emma
